Jack Helps Out with Chumming at the 2008 Record Swim
It was quite the turnout for Saturday's Carp Swim. Alibi counted 16 carloads. The food was great, fishing was fun, and Jack provided some great entertainment. We caught some video, but did not manage to capture the coup d'etat of the final moments. Still, it's worth watching the video...
Folks with this How too , I hope to shed Some Light on One Of the Great Methods We Use At the Pennsylvania Pay lakes. In This How Too Article , I hope to shed some Light on A Killer way to Rip some lips and Pass on an art that is Older than Most who use it. This great Method was Passed onto me by None other than The P.A. PayLaker legend Himself , Raymond " Herkel " Corcoran. Mid Last year , I met Herk In Star City West Virginia While fishing with Another Carp Angler , West Virginia Carp Angler Legend Justin Gerard. I watched as herkel , brought Out His Trusty pack baits , And So forth. So After fishing A few Hours With Him And His very Cool grandson Bubba , And Rippin us at our Own Fishing Hole , I sent him a few Pm's On the CAG forum and Asked if he could Show a newbie How to properly Fish a Pay Lake. Well , He did Just that. For the Rest Of the Summer , Fall and Winter I became a very astute Student.
We put in for a kayak and canoe floating and fishing trip on Sunday the 8th. We brought some newbies to canoing and kayaking. This became fairly evident on the way down the river. Nevertheless, I think we have added to our cadre of river participants.
Note to all, if you are going to float from Riverside to Shannondale Springs:
A:) It is going to be a Long Long day (ask SingleFabulous)
B:) Bring PLENTY of Sunscreen.. and it helps to use it (ask Aaron)
Every once in a while comes a story worth being told. Here is just such a story, replete with challenge, romance, adventure, and the ruthless pursuit the human spirit can endure for a lifetime of adventure. This, my friends, is the story of John Thomas "Red" Harbaugh and "Ol' Red" as told by my friend "Ol' Dave." I feel it is important to share this story for posterity, so that others might learn from "Red's" journey through life! A special thank you to Dave for acting as scribe for history's sake.
I had just got my new XT1000 Overfire paintball gun from Sparks Paintball Guns and Archery Shop. The week before the old man, Cookie, had gotten a couple of thousand 18mm boilies that were nice and round and fly straight. His homemade ones never fly straight out of a slingshot, sometimes they curved back towards innocent people on the shore. We needed round ones for our next grand carp fishing idea. We had the idea of shooting the 18mm boilies out of my new Overfire paintball gun. When cranked all the way up to level 10 the Overfire can shoot 50 paintballs a second at 500 fps, if you know how to feather the dual triggers. I can feather the dual triggers as fast as the old man can eat a doughnut.
The one piece of ammo that you want in your carping arsenal is the hair rig. This is important for successful carp fishing. Carp have very sensitive lips and will suck up food stuffs and check them out. The first sign of a sharp hook barb and they will spit it. What this rig allows you to do is thread boilies or pieces of kernel corn on your line separate to the hook. This allows a more natural free floating presentation. When a carp takes the bait he is more committed prior to a hook set.
