Back from the NC Fishing Trip on the Vonda Kay with Bill
Sara waiting for the Bite to Start!
Wow what a busy summer. Lots of work and very little play this past year. Too busy to even touch the website. But at last got some vacation time in and went to see out favorite salt water fishing guide Bill Hamner. He put us on to some good fishing out of Top Sail Island, NC on the Vonda Kay.
It was good to get in some much needed fishing this season. Our well known friends Bill and Lisa hosted myself, Alibi Rob and Sara during our trip. We only got out once with the late season changing weather but it was indeed worthwhile. Sara caught her first shark, as well as some snapper. Hopefully she's hooked. If you get a chance definitely let Bill H hook you up on the Vonda Kay.
Check out some of the picture highlights on the read more link.....
Well I finally uploaded the web gallery for the May 30th Carp Fish. I'm Calling it the Serenity Now Carp Fish because of that picture of Alibi gone to look in the water for a snagged carp. We had some nice Large carp come in all in all a fairly good take in the carp hole. The Album is at http://www.carpetux.com/pica-web-gallery/114.html
Also I have the CoolIris Plugin working to show a photo wall in Firefox, Check it Out Very Cool! You have to install the Plugin Here : http://www.cooliris.com/ Just follow the directions to install in Firefox then go the to PicaWeb Gallery and you'll see the photos in a whole new way!
Well I've seen it all now! Oatmeal Jack went and sent Cookie's article into US Carp Pro Magazine and he's in print. Will wonders never cease. Actually that was a great story. Let's hope we can get the "Step on his Head" Kennedy Turkey Video on the Outdoor Life Channel. Somehow Cookie always has things all figured out whether it comes to carp or turkey. Here' the Link to the US Carp Pro Article. US Carp ProOatmeal Jack Links to US Cap Pro too.
Well, the annual bonfire and carp fish happened on Saturday the 25th and although the rain and wind were looking to spoil it, the sun crept out in beautiful majesty right as the whole thing got started in earnest. One of the best sunsets I have seen in a while. While all around us clouds and darkness swirled it seemed that our spot was the exception.
Just because Oatmeal Jack made the smart ass comment about Electric Carp.....Well here it is! (w/Video)
"Now would it be too much to ask to get a Mutant Robot Carp with Frikken Lasers attached...C'mon people?"
Ohh what we could do with one of these at a WV Carp'n Hole!
The robotic carp developed by Ryomei Engineering
(a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries) is a curious example of a
fish robot. This remote-controlled metal fish resembles a koi carp,
and it's actually a great catch: 80 cm and 12 Kg. The following video
shows the smooth tail movement. The robotic koi is able to
swim in reverse and rotate in place thanks to its five motors.
Additionally, it is equipped with a CCD camera and sensors for analyzing
water quality.
Well it's getting toward the end of the season so it was a good time to get in as much fishing and fellowship as possible before everyone is locked up in their cabins come February wishing that it was still warm and they could go fishing again.
Thanks everyone for a wonderful day of fishing and friends. One of the highlights to cap the day off was Dawn catching "the biggest fish she has ever pulled out of the river." Way to go Dawn, a great catch for your first night on the river at the Infamous Carp'n Hole. You get the biggest carp of the night award. Which, by the way, just consists of me saying, "You get the biggest carp of the night award."
I had fished the night before and had great hopes for smallmouth...
Just back from vacation with Alibi and had to get this picture up. Because of the weather We had to run from Sneads Ferry and Beach fishing to PFP. While the Bass fishing was good this was an Unexpected Surprise! I have Never seen a 16 Inch Crappie and the Trophy that sits on the table of Hooktats cabin is 12 inches. Yes I measured as soon as I got back.
Gary Yamamoto stopped producing the Champagne Colored Hula Grub I am so fond of using. Add this little baby to the personal best list of Yamo-Hula-Grub CHAMPAGNE colored PB's that I have with this bait. Dear Gary Yamamoto I'll take another 1000 of these!
Like I'm going to catch a 5lb Largmouth while taking a Veteran Carp fisherman out and talking of the finer points of SmallMouth Fishing and not place it on the Front Page. Yeah Right! Being a good sport Jack did take a picture of it and send it to me. I gotta say I've never pulled a Largemouth out of the Shen. So here is the sequence of events....
ME: "yeah Jack you gotta use one of these here 'hula grubs' in this color..and bounce it like this"
JACK: ..."sure I'm OK...I got this smallmouth thing all figured out"
ME: "OK but I'm telling you....WHAM.......HEY GUYS GET THE CAMERA OUT!"
JACK: "Err...Umm..John, Got any more of those 'hula grubs'?" [...continued]
Had a good fishing trip Sunday evening on the Potomac with Paul. Tried to test my underwater cam since the water was so clear. Kind of had mixed results. I need to work out how to take better shots while steering a kayak, and holding a rod and sticking the camera under the water. I'm going to try to get some good shots of Smallies under water in the fall when the water is real clear. Check out the video clips that I kinda managed to get.
