Winter Hiatus and 2011 PDF Print E-mail

tigershamanJust a short note since I am not updating this page as much as I used to. Lots of stuff is going on personally this winter time and I am going in a bunch of new directions. So this Carpetux website was a good way to tell our community stories. Actually in the great tradition of telling stories in a tribal fashion and binding a small community together through mutual experience is has served a good purpose. The winter seasons are always a time that is an incubation period to develop creativity to burst forth in Spring. So with that in mind, I look forward to having some new fishing adventures this coming year and reminiscing with the stories we have had through shared experiences.

So as we all take this down time I know that 2011 we will put together some new stories to tell, and they will have all the comedy, drama and hilarity that has marked our fishing excursions in the past. In reality I do need to write up the last great adventure of 2010 that Rob, Paul and Myself had before the year ended. I know we will not forget it, it was simply too hilarious to ever forget. We all became the butt of the River Prankster, and boy did it have fun humbling us in all manor of actions.

As it always does...

My connection to the outdorrs and nature has evolved into many new understandings as of late and I have many new outlooks from when I started this site. . As I have focused on fishing and community(our tribe) with this website I have also been lead to the study of shamanism and nature, so as I retract slightly from the fisherman to focus on shamanic studies and the study of nature, I will try to transition this website or adjuct it in order to attempt to contribute to the positive changes of the present chaotic atmospher and changes happening in our personal worlds and the world as a whole,  I believe now is a crucial time for more participation in manifesting positive forward change in the world. It is time for all of us to stop being spectators and start actively and creatively contibuting participation into a world that desparatly needs positive change.

Peace, Light and Love,

Black Snake Falling Carp Fish PDF Print E-mail

Black Snake Moan and Bubbas first Carp Swim

Well this was a fun Carp Swim. Made possible  in part by the Piliated Woodpecker that kept throwing Black Snakes out of the Trees Above. The aforementioned snakes were easily replaceable by a length of black rope I dug out of my truck, and by one black snake Mike caught and was later gestured toward a car door. Alex B. who was in the car made an escape over his buddie "Bubba" before Bubba even registered what was going on. Alex then proceeded to set a speed and distance record for getting away from a snake, the likes of which I have only ever seen with Alibi Rob.  Oooh tough guys go figure!!

Once the Woodpecker had eliminated most of the snakes, the black rope came out and a few really good "gotcha's" ensued. I still have a bruise from Sharon. Boy a little harmless fun with black rope can really get her upset. Ouch! Gosh Sharon you can really stand toe to toe with sailors in the verbage department! I still don't know what some of those words you used mean. Well I was probably laughing too hard to really listen!

Cookie Schools us on the Finer art of Monster Potomac Catfish

Well we got some results on this trip. There are tricks to get these big boys and Cookie has got the technique down. Even got into a school of small striper. Such a strange thing to be fishing near DC, the smells, sounds and sights are so incongruous with most of my fishing experiences. But those big Cats seem to like the waters round our capitol. So the first pics of the 2010 season are up. Make sure you click on the read more link.

Back from the NC Fishing Trip on the Vonda Kay with Bill

Sara waiting for the Bite to Start!

Voda Kay Outing Wow what a busy summer. Lots of work and very little play this past year. Too busy to even touch the website. But at last got some vacation time in and went to see out favorite salt water fishing guide Bill Hamner. He put us on to some good fishing out of Top Sail Island, NC on the Vonda Kay.

It was good to get in some much needed fishing this season. Our well known friends Bill and Lisa hosted myself, Alibi Rob and Sara during our trip. We only got out once with the late season changing weather but it was indeed worthwhile. Sara caught her first shark, as well as some snapper. Hopefully she's hooked. If you get a chance definitely let Bill H hook you up on the Vonda Kay.

Check out some of the picture highlights on the read more link.....

The Final Carp Down

The light broke through at just the right time.

Well, the annual bonfire and carp fish happened on Saturday the 25th and although the rain and wind were looking to spoil it, the sun crept out in beautiful majesty right as the whole thing got started in earnest.  One of the best sunsets I have seen in a while. While all around us clouds and darkness swirled it seemed that our spot was the exception.

The Conscious Electric CarpBot PDF Print E-mail

koi_robot.jpgJust because Oatmeal Jack made the smart ass comment about Electric Carp.....Well here it is!  (w/Video)

"Now would it be too much to ask to get a Mutant Robot Carp with Frikken Lasers attached...C'mon people?"

Ohh what we could do with one of these at a WV Carp'n Hole!

The robotic carp developed by Ryomei Engineering (a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries) is a curious example of a fish robot. This remote-controlled metal fish resembles a koi carp, and it's actually a great catch: 80 cm and 12 Kg. The following video shows the smooth tail movement. The robotic koi is able to swim in reverse and rotate in place thanks to its five motors. Additionally, it is equipped with a CCD camera and sensors for analyzing water quality.
